BIOGRAPHY
Ana Vidina Hernández (MA Latin American Studies, MSSW) is the program and research coordinator of Girasol at the Texas Institute for Child and Family Wellbeing at the University of Texas at Austin. Girasol strives to help Texas immigrant children and families to heal from trauma through support, education, and connection. Girasol works to support immigrants by providing services to women and children both during and post-detention, educate service providers and students on migration and trauma, and connect community members with resources. Ana is also a lead counselor at the YWCA Greater Austin, an agency providing sliding scale bilingual counseling services. Her advocacy, social work practice, and research are centered around work with immigrants in detention and the immigrant community in Texas.
