BIOGRAPHY

My parents and I immigrated to Miami, FL from La Habana, Cuba in 1995 through a family petition. Throughout my adulthood, I wrestled with the fact that Cubans have a privileged status within the US immigration system. This understanding took shape in the context of generational stories of persecution, of concerns regarding family members’ attempts at crossing the MX/US border, and of the uncertainty after Obama’s decision in January 2017 regarding immigration from Cuba. Today, my parents and extended family are still in south Florida. I left home to complete my undergraduate degree in western Massachusetts, at Hampshire College. After returning home and working within child welfare and community mental health systems for a few years, I decided to move to San Antonio, TX where I am now finishing a bilingual, licensure program in Couples and Family Therapy. While I work towards establishing myself as a licensed therapeutic services provider in Texas, I look forward to hearing from anyone who is looking for peer support! I strongly believe in the values of this network and will follow the principles outlined for Peer Support in an effort to help folks in the movement.

We are not a service provider.  We have created a directory of culturally grounded Latinx therapists who believe in the human rights of migrant peoples. This directory is meant to be a resource for all those who are Latinx and anyone engaged in advancing the human rights and dignity of Latinx migrant communities across the United States.   This directory is a list of mental health professionals and not a recommendation or guarantee of quality service by LTAN.  We highly encourage everyone to research and consult directly with providers before beginning services with them to ensure it is a good fit.
